Sara Jane Otis is an international educator dedicated to lifelong learning and self-mastery.  Alongside her full-time career in university-level study abroad programs, she freelances in copyediting and private SAT/ACT tutoring.   

Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder (graduating Magna cum laude with a double major in International Affairs and Linguistics and a minor in German); a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics from the University of Colorado, Boulder; a Master of Public Policy degree from California Polytechnic State University; and a professional certificate in Copyediting from the University of California, San Diego.  She has graduate-level training in communications, grant writing, technical writing, creative writing, and journalism.  She studied abroad in Germany (high school year abroad) and Chile (3 college semesters abroad), and conducted 10 months of sociolinguistic graduate research in the Dominican Republic through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.  She has 15+ years of professional experience in higher education, 8+ years of experience tutoring for the SAT and ACT, and 3+ years of freelance copyediting and proofreading experience. 

Sara’s career trajectory has included international education positions at the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of California Santa Cruz, and the University of Hawaii Manoa.  She currently works at California Polytechnic State University SLO as a Study Abroad Coordinator.  She lives on California's central coast and is a voracious reader, avid equestrian, aspiring yogini, gardening enthusiast, and novice archer.
